AQD-Anchorage is a satellite office, located in the Aviation Management Regional Office of the Boise Aviation Acquisition Branch.

Anchorage was incorporated November 23, 1920. Unlike every other large town in Alaska, south of the Brooks Range, Anchorage was neither a fishing area nor a mining camp. Within a ten-mile radius of Anchorage, land is barren and devoid of significant metal minerals. In 1914, the city grew from its proximity to and choice as the site of a railroad construction port for the Alaska Railroad.

An easy blending of historic structures and modern buildings in the downtown district is testament to efforts by city officials to maintain Western heritage while evolving in modern times.
